We may be considering covering a more narrow amount of information or may decide to not continue with the Local Bristol Music News site. BBC Proms 2009

The BBC Proms 2009 has arrived. We will be covering different and interesting parts of the Proms throughout the season. We will also be giving you an updating date bar for all the next concerts that will be broadcast on television, such as BBC 2 and 4. All Proms concerts will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3.

Feel free to let us know what aspect or concert of the Proms you are looking forward, or if you are going to see a concert yourself.

Added new local orchestras page

We have now added a page to the Local Orchestras section of our website for the new youth orchestra: South Gloucestershire Youth Wind Band, which we were imformed about from a comment that one of our users left us recently. We now have the summary about the upcoming concert, as mentioned in a previous post, and a link to the biography of the director.

Another reminder to anyone who goes or takes part to leave a comment on the page and review how you thought it went. Our aim is to give people the opportunity to discuss the different orchestras and therefore over time provide a useful resource for others who are thinking of attending an orchestra concert.

New South Glos Youth WIND Orchestra concert

Thanks to one of our users, we are now informed about the new South Gloucestershire Youth Wind Band. Here is a quote from this users comment: “Conducted by the acclaimed John Greaves. This will be the second concert performed by the best wind players of the county. After only 2 days and a bit of intense rehearsals we hope to perform a wide range of exciting repertoire.” We will now be shortly adding a page about this orchestra to the local orchestras section. Please note that the orchestra will be performing July19th at Brimsham Green School in Yate starting 5pm.

SGYCO to play “Proms” style concert

EXCLUSIVE:

The South Gloucestershire Youth Chamber Orchestra are set to perform a “Last Night of the Proms” style concert on the 17th July. The orchestra plans to start the evening off with the popular Elgar Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 “Land of Hope and Glory”. The orchestra will also be performing a series of different marches – (click link above for details). The concert is planned to conclude with the Henry Wood Fantasia on British Sea Songs, which also performed a student’s arrangement last month by The Ridings High School Orchestra. However, we are unaware of which version will be performed. If you attend this concert, please leave a comment with this post to how you thought it went.

Local Conductor Jason Lai in new BBC programme

Local conductor of the New Bristol Sinfonia Jason Lai is yet again involved in a BBC music series. Last year you may have seen Jason Lai in the BBC programme Maestro, mentoring comedian Sue Perkins, who went on to win the conducting competition. This time he’s involved in the new CBBC series entitled “Clash“. The first of 6 programmes starts Tuesday, 7th July 09 on BBC 2 at 4:35pm and is about re-birthing classical music to a new audience. Jason will be a music mentor for one of the two teams that try to win this competition.

Jason Lai will be back conducting the New Bristol Sinfonia again next year.

Welcome to the new BWLS Local Bristol Music News and Inforamtion website; yes – we are now available 24/7!

You can expect to find all the information that you read before, plus plenty of new and exciting things to come. Please bear with us while we re-contruct our site. For those who have never heard of the BWLS Bristol Music News site before, we are a website that gives you all the useful information you need to know about the orchestras and other music ensembles in the Bristol / South Gloucestershire region. This covers information about youth and other large orchestras in the area, such as New Bristol Sinfonia, Bristol Concert Orchestra and others such as Thornbury Orchestra.

We want to provide a place where people can share the experiences of these Bristol music events, giving people the opportunity to review concerts etc. On top of the local news, we are also interested to providing other music inforamtion that we think that some of you music lovers would find interesting. For example, we will be following this years BBC Proms (see British Sea Songs petition).

We hope that as we get increasing visitors that we will grow to give you an original insight into the music world…
